Routine Preventive Exams
The health of your teeth and gums has a direct effect on your over all health and that is why Yorkshire Dental completes a very thorough exam on all of our patients. We take the time to carefully review your dental and medical history and ask you about any specific dental concerns you may have. A complete exam is completed on your teeth and gums looking for any signs of decay or gum disease.
When caught early decay can be easily treated without significant damage to the tooth structure. We now know that periodontal (gum) disease can have a negative effect on your over all body health as well as lead to tooth loss. Periodontal disease has been linked to heart disease, osteoarthritis, premature births, kidney disease, oral cancer, lung disease and Alzheimer’s. Periodontal disease can also make it difficult for someone with diabetes to manage and control his or her diabetes.
Oral cancer screening is a routine part of our dental examination. Regular check-ups, including an examination of the entire mouth, are essential in the early detection of cancerous and pre-cancerous conditions. You may have a very small, but dangerous, oral spot or sore and not be aware of it. In this year alone approximately 35,000 people in the US will be diagnosed with oral cancer. When found early oral cancer has a very high survival rate, unfortunately most oral cancer is found as late stage cancer.
Keeping our patients healthy and smiling brightly is a priority for Yorkshire Dental.
